The dregs need to have a thousand backup plans, and everything is brilliantly planned by Bardugo. This book focuses on mind games and clever plotting. Her plotting is incredibly engaging, with so many twists and turns that the book is hard to put down. There's no competition whatsoever.īardugo tosses you right into the main plot from the beginning and keeps you engaged all the way through, even when her focus is on character work.

I personally feel you shouldn't give up until you've at least read the third chapter because that is when the main plot kicks into gear. This chapter is fun to reread after you've already know who's who, but it can be pretty tricky the first go around. Really the only three you need to remember are Inej, Kaz, and Jesper and the rest are minor characters. My issue with the second chapter in SoC is that it throws way too many names at you. I always advise my friends to skim through the first chapter.
